LABOUR PREPARATION
From week 36, your pregnancy makes the transition from the 3rd trimester into the pre-labour phase. Pre-birth acupuncture consists of 3 weekly treatments, from week 37 to 40, designed to shorten the time you spend in labour. Research on the use of acupuncture to prepare women for labour first appeared in 1974 with a study by Kubista and Kucera [1]. Their research concluded that acupuncture once a week from 37 weeks gestation using the acupuncture points was successful in reducing the mean labour time of the women treated.

Pre-birth acupuncture is also helpful for posterior position, (baby’s back faces mum’s back) and posterior cervix, Several systematic reviews have found that moxibustion has a positive effect in correcting breech presentation (Vas 2009; Li 2009; Van den Berg 2008)

Our treatment focuses on relaxing muscles of the pelvic floor, cervical ripening, ensuring there is enough amniotic fluid, and other labour preparation details.
